A special experience
The Stuwa® flap rudder consists of two separate rudder sections joined by a hinge, the main rudder and the streamlined, hinged flap. The special qualities of this rudder are produced by the flap, which creates a large lateral force with small deflections of the main rudder. This results in excellent manoeuvrability. Thanks to the minimal drag the system optimises your propulsion efficiency.
Ingenious principle
When the main rudder is deflected by means of the rudder yoke, a mechanical link automatically controls the flap, doubling the deflection of the main rudder for the passing water flow. Together, the main rudder and the flap form a deeply curved aerofoil which creates an extra lift effect as the propeller wash rushes past.
Since the flap response is immediate, small course corrections require only one or two degrees of rudder deflection. Thanks to the double water deflection, the rudder instantly transfers the desired direction to the entire ship.

- Neatly protected by a streamlined enclosure and using an ingenious built-in mechanism.

The Stuwa® flap rudder is suitable for any type of ship. The system is widely in use for both inland shipping, maritime and yachting purposes. The steering and speed efficiency are much better than those of a standard rudder system, so you will easily recoup your investment in spite of the additional periodical maintenance on the flap mechanism.
