The ship of the future

De Waal is proud to have contributed to the construction of the ship of the future: the Sendo Liner. In less than a week, this innovative ship was fitted with a complete steering system, including the well-known fuel-saving Easyflow rudders.

This is the third ship with a steering system from De Waal for Sendo Shipping. "We also prefer De Waal products for other projects," says a satisfied Sebastiaan van der Meer, director of Sendo Shipping.

De Waal is delighted that a progressive company such as Sendo Shipping has chosen them. Easyflow is known as a very economical type of rudder, and Sendo Shipping has already had good experiences with it.

Reliable

Van der Meer: "We are always happy with De Waal's equipment; they supply good products at a great price. It is a reliable company with a good rudder design. De Waal looks at the characteristics of the ship and there is good coordination regarding the work in the ship lift. In this case, the installation was even slightly ahead of schedule; they were finished in less than a week.” Economical

The Sendo Liner is a highly economical container ship measuring 110 x 11.45 metres. It is a twin-screw model that has 32 per cent less power at the same draught (3.2 metres), speed (14 km/h and 3.89 m/s) and water depth under the keel (1.5 metres) as the MS Nadorias. The existing ship from Sendo Shipping on the basis of which these data have been mapped.

Green rudders

The well-known Easyflow rudders on the Sendo Liner are not only figuratively but also literally green, as they are painted in the striking 'Sendo' green colour. "We thought it would be a nice touch to paint the rudders this green colour, although the question is, of course, how long they will remain so beautifully green, as the colour will quickly change during sailing," says Van der Meer with a smile.
