Our service department is responsible for inspecting various installations, including steering gear and ship cranes. These are machines that the Dutch legislator considers so important for your safety and that of others that legislation has been based on them. Periodic inspection is mandatory.
De Waal fully complies with all quality criteria set by the independent body IVR for the inspection of steering gear. After a thorough internal investigation at our company, IVR awarded De Waal the official 'proof of quality assurance' in 2008. Since then, De Waal has been inspecting and certifying all brands of steering gear on the market according to uniform standards. Certification
We are authorised to issue a 'Steering Gear Inspection Certificate' on behalf of the IVR. This certificate ensures that you comply with the legally prescribed three-year inspection period. This certificate is also an important part of the SPO (damage prevention inspection). If the requirements of the SPO (of which the steering gear inspection is an important item) are met, the ship owner will receive the 'Proof of Damage Prevention' from an IVR-authorised expert. This is an important document, developed on the initiative of insurers. Steering gear regulations
It is still common for steering gear on older ships to fail to meet current standards. Since April 2007, a new law has been in force for new ships, based on the ROSR, which, in addition to the mandatory steering gear inspection, also sets requirements for the technical design of the machinery.
Since 2010, this law also applies to existing vessels that are due for a new CvO (Certificate of Seaworthiness).
De Waal has always been innovative in steering gear technology. Our fully 'double-executed piping system' has now become the standard for other manufacturers. We are happy to help you adapt your steering gear to current regulations. We assess, quote, 'convert' and conduct a trial run together. This way, we can be sure of the quality we deliver. And you can move forward with a new Certificate of Inspection. A safe feeling.
Hoisting must be safe. At De Waal, people work with technology, which can entail risks. If the crane meets our strict standards and is inspected regularly, the customer does not need to worry about this.
Every new crane is commissioned by us and then professionally tested and certified by an external expert agency (e.g. AIB Vincotte). We provide you with a yellow crane logbook and stamp it. After that, you are responsible. Every calendar year, an expert must inspect the crane and note any maintenance required in the crane logbook. Every ten years, an accredited company must perform a technical inspection of the crane, certify it, and have it retested by an expert agency. De Waal is fully accredited. It is also possible to take out a maintenance contract.
