Our most-produced rudder type ever!

Since the early nineties, the inland shipping industry has opted for our dynamic rudder system in massive numbers. Hardly surprising, considering it is a system that provides optimised manoeuvrability even in tricky conditions and lets you turn your ship on its axis. It provides good fuel economy as well. These are the facts of our most-produced rudder type ever. The Stuwa® dynamic rudder system always consists of a double rudder setup for each propeller.

Rudder dynamics

Both dynamically shaped rudders have asymmetrical cross-sections. On the inside, the rudders are smooth and straight, while the outside features an advanced (semi-)fishtail shape that deflects the water flow an additional number of degrees relative to the rudder deflection.

By combining these rudders with a variable incidence steering machine, the manoeuvring effect receives an extra boost, with amazing results. Both rudders also feature wide, curved top and bottom plates that contain the water flow and increase thrust. The twist in the plates helps to reduce vibrations to a minimum, increasing on-board comfort levels.

Maintenance-free

In addition to the properties outlined above, the dynamic rudders also offer minimal maintenance requirements thanks to their heavy-duty design and excellent bearing system. The shrink ring design, which is a standard feature, helps to prevent cracks from forming in the usual spots. All rudders are factory-finished with an airtight and watertight seal and a tough coating.
