Countless problem-free running hours

Are you looking for a complete propeller shaft system? Is it just a new shaft you need? Or would you like to have your shaft rebushed or laser-aligned? We can do it all. It’s what we do, for anything that floats!

De Waal is the leading propeller shaft specialist in the Netherlands. We will happily handle any shaft length all the way up to 12 metres.

We supply our shafts complete with bearings in a pre-assembled prop shaft tube. Our system is unique. Without any need for on-board machining we will install the tube accurately and dead straight, using laser equipment. And we will do the work in our own ship lift or at any inland or seaboard shipyard of your choice. De Waal: flexibility is our middle name.

From rough shaft to unique prop system

The manufacturing process of a propeller shaft starts at the engineering department. Based on your ship, engine, and propeller data we do the necessary strength calculations and prepare a precision, low-tolerance 3-D design of your prop shaft. In our dockside logistics shop we keep our ample stock of rough shafts in a variety of diameters, most of them already carrying the seals of a classification bureau. We can just pick the one we want, no delivery time, and we’re off to a great start! On to the workshop, where state-of-the-art lathes are used on a daily basis to machine propeller shafts. From short to extremely long, for two or even three bearing points. Here, skilled specialists are dedicated to finishing your propeller shaft with high precision.

Prefab assembly for fast fitting

Next, in the assembly department, the coupling flange and the propeller are test-fitted onto the conical propeller shaft ends to ensure that nothing can go wrong during the final installation. The prefab shaft tube is then fitted with its bearings and flanges. Finally, our installation crew gets its turn. Highly experienced in all types of ships, they align everything, install the propeller shaft tube and fit the propeller shaft. They will then complete your installation with seals, coupling flange, propeller shaft brake, and of course, the propeller. All exactly according to plan, until you are fully satisfied!
