An inner seal consists of a number of bronze seal rings fitted with a chamber containing an elastic, V-shaped sealing ring. This rubber ring rotates with the propeller shaft and seals axially against the bronze seal ring.
Depending on the mounting direction of the sealing rings, this principle has a water-repellent or lubricant-reducing effect. With an inner seal, all sealing rings are mounted in the same direction, creating an optimum seal with several safety steps built in. Leakproof really is leakproof at De Waal.
Apart from new construction, Stuwa® seals are also excellent for solving (grease) leaks in existing grease-lubricated installations. Without rebuilding the existing installation. When applied, the old grease gasket is removed and replaced by our sealing rings. These are pressed against the stern tube using the custom-turned gasket pusher. Every shipyard is familiar with our system and would be happy to order and fit it for you.
Stuwa interior sealing: the right solution.
After intensive research and sustainability tests, Lloyds Register of Shipping and Bureau Veritas awarded Stuwa® Seals the so-called 'Type Approval Certificate'. The highest possible classification. Naturally, our seals are also available for ships under any other class. Even Green Award has awarded their environmental seal. There is no greater assurance of quality!
