Easyflow® from De Waal is the most sustainable and green rudder system available. In the autumn of 2013, De Waal was the first to market this innovation. The vessel can achieve fuel savings of no less than 5 to 15 per cent by simply converting to our Easyflow® rudder system. The result is unchanged manoeuvrability and a quieter home, or time savings if you keep the throttle fully open. This quickly adds up to 1.5 hours on certain routes. Now that's a profit.

Optimal rudder dynamics

The Stuwa® Easyflow rudders are slimmer than all other rudder types and are positioned further out. In the neutral position, the rudders are just outside the fast-flowing propeller water. This water flows much faster along the inside of the rudder than on the outside. This creates considerable overpressure on the inside and underpressure on the outside. The patented Easyflow wing profile converts this pressure difference into extra thrust. And because the rear of the rudder blade has virtually no curved trailing edge, the thrust generated is not disrupted. Optimal ship dynamics!

De Waal's engineers will examine the vessel together with you. How is the stern shaped? Does water escape above the rudders? Could we perhaps install a flat trim plate? These and many other issues will come to light if you allow us to form a no-obligation opinion of the vessel. We work according to our 1-2-3 step plan: measure, convert and save. Every customer who opts for 'rudder conversion' receives a comprehensive test list from us. This list tracks all kinds of parameters and ship data over a certain period of time. We then convert the current rudder system to Easyflow®. We reuse many parts. You will be sailing again within one working week. You then fill in the test list again. It will now become clear how much you are actually saving. Many skippers have already made the switch.
