What is VCA?
The VCA safety system was originally developed for the petrochemical industry, but VCA policy has since been adopted in various sectors of industry. VCA is a health, safety and environment safety checklist for contractors, but it is also more than that. It includes a versatile and complete programme that has been used to structurally and objectively scrutinise De Waal in order to certify its internal H&S management system.
VCA-certified employees
Every operational employee of De Waal carries a personal VCA basic certificate or a full VCA certificate to show that they are serious about personal and environmental safety at work.
VCA** certified operation
An independent, objective audit by an acknowledged body has led to De Waal being issued the VCA** seal of approval. A major condition for retaining the seal is that the company is subjected to annual checks to make sure it still meets all requirements. In fact we are under constant supervision. It feels good to know that.

How do we comply?
The VCA** certificate shows that our company meets every health & safety and environmental requirement. On the one hand this will ensure that our clients, that is you, do not have to take all kinds of actions to safeguard your own safety. On the other hand, many major shipping, offshore and petrochemical companies demand company certification as a prerequisite for being allowed to do any on-site work (e.g. on ships). This is simply because they also need to make sure that any company working on their premises is able to operate safely and reliably. Altogether it helps us make the Netherlands just that little bit safer, which is good for all of us.
What does it mean for you?
In order to satisfy the VCA requirements, you as our customer will also need to help us and ‘work’ safely. Upon your arrival or at the commencement of work, our head of production will personally inform you about our safety programme and the rules you will need to observe. Please help us by giving us your full cooperation. Thank you.
