In November 2024, Thecla Bodewes Shipyards launched the first ship in the Salmo series of dry cargo ships in Harlingen: the Iana. Machinefabriek De Waal became involved in this project at an early stage, supplying the flapper valves and steering gear.

De Waal received the request in January 2023. Even before construction of the hull began, the engineering department coordinated all the details so that they could be included in the preparations. In March 2023, Thecla Bodewes Shipyards Kampen officially commissioned the supply of the flap rudder and steering gear.

The hennekoker was delivered in November 2023 and installed by the shipyard during the hull construction. De Waal not only supplies installations, but can also take care of the installation for the customer. We did this for the Iana as well. In October 2024, we took care of the installation of the flap rudder and steering gear at the TB Shipyards shipyard in Harlingen, where the ship was launched on 11 November during a festive gathering.

The steering gear was then commissioned in January 2025. After a successful trial run, this assignment was completed.
