Recruiting young people? Start at the source: education!

At Machinefabriek De Waal, we have been investing in the future of maritime technology for years. That starts with young people themselves. Would you like to know how we approach this? A+O Metalektro spoke with our project manager Cees Verheij and wrote a great article about it.

"For many young people, choosing a career in maritime technology is certainly not a matter of course," Cees tells A+O Metalektro. "Yet we never have any major problems recruiting young people. That's because we have maintained close contacts with educational institutions in the region for many years. These contacts are essential for ensuring a new influx of young talent." De Waal organises taster internships for vocational secondary education students around ten times a year. Project manager Cees Verheij.

Networking afternoons and company visits

In collaboration with Werkendam Maritime Industries, we participate in annual networking afternoons for VMBO students. During these events, our employees present our company, giving young people a realistic picture of the technical sector. We also invite primary school pupils to visit our company, where they are given a tour and introduced to our work.

Enthusing

Building relationships with schools and providing good guidance to interns are crucial steps in getting young people excited about technology. By actively seeking cooperation and taking young people seriously, we can jointly ensure a strong influx of technical talent into our sector.
